How dangerous is smoking weed?!

Question: How dangerous is smoking weed.?
This is not for me it is for a friend i am becoming increasingly worried about. What can i say to persuade them to stop when they are stubborn about it and don't see it as a problem. He only does it with other friends and never has particularly heavy amounts but i don't want it to end up affecting him. Help!Health Question & Answer

Sorry. There is nothing you can do. Just be a friend. No one can stop another from doing something that is going to hurt them. I have seen many people smoke dope and be fine for years, but on the other hand, it can cost him his life (indirectly of course, weed can not kill unless there is an allergic reaction or it is cut with something). It actually put me into a depression and suicide attempts after smoking for years. It took almost 2 years to stop and to get my moods back to normal. Health Question & Answer

Studies haven't found that marijuana reduces life expectancy, so it isn't physically dangerous.

It can cause demotivation and memory problems and is addictive for 15% of the population, but given that your boyfriend smokes moderately and is apparently not having any of these problems I don't see any difficulty here.

It's also a gateway drug, but he doesn't appear to have become a junkie.

Which is to say that your boyfriend's perceptions appear to be right -- it isn't doing him harm. While not benign, marijuana is a less harmful drug overall than alcohol. So set your mind at ease -- marijuana is hazardous, but only to some people, and at least as you describe it your boyfriend doesn't seem to be one of them.Health Question & Answer

Weed is harmless it does not cause cancer, there are no cases of people dieing from it, and you can use its oil to cure cancer yes CURE im not fu(king joking around, www.myspace.com/hempjack watch the videos. Those are the facts. The oil from weed also called "hemp oil" can cure any mutating cells. Their are alot of storys on people using it and being cured, one guy had 5 months to live (told by a doctor) found a guy named Mr.simpson and saw his hemp storys and gave it a try, when he went back to his doctor for regular check ups he was told by his doc that his cancer was going away little by little after about 8 or 9 uses the cancer was gone.

it also produces a higher quality and produces more ethanol.

and the only reason it illegal is because the gov cant make money off it.Health Question & Answer

its lots of fun, but balanced out by the fact that it greys your hair, gives you a real low a week after you've smoked it, makes you lazy and is linked, though not as directly as people would have you believe, to cancer and schizophrenia.

worth a try, but perhaps in moderation only, unless you're a hedonist.Health Question & Answer

The largest study of the health effects of marijuana to date was done by Kaiser Permanente. They studied the health records of 65,000 patients over a number of years. They found no significant differences between the health histories of those who smoked pot versus those who did not smoke marijuana. Marijuana and Mortality

The jury is still out on whether Marijuana (weed) is harmful or not and it also depends on how much the individual uses Marijuana and for how long. The reason that little is said about Marijuana is because cigarettes have been studied far more than Marijuana, but that is changing rapidly. Some young individuals will consider this article a 'scare tactic' or 'it's a conspiracy to scare the heck out of Marijuana users,' but the truth will come out sooner or later for those that persist on misusing Marijuana. Smoking marijuana is far more dangerous than smoking cigarettes, according to a group of scientists in New Zealand. The researchers found that smoking one joint is equivalent to 20 cigarettes in terms of lung cancer. While studies in the past have shown that marijuana can cause cancer, few have actually established a strong link between marijuana use and the actual incidence of lung cancer. For the study, researchers interviewed 79 lung cancer patients in an effort identify the main risk factors for the disease, such as smoking, family history and occupation. The patients were questioned about alcohol and marijuana consumption. In the high-exposure group, lung cancer risk rose by 5.7 times for patients who smoked more than a joint a day for 10 years, or two joints a day for 5 years, after adjusting for other variables, including cigarette smoking. "Cannabis smokers end up with five times more carbon monoxide in their bloodstream (than tobacco smokers)," team leader Richard Beasley, at the Medical Research Institute of New Zealand, said in a news release. The scientists also noted that marijuana could be expected to harm the airways more than tobacco since its smoke contained twice the level of carcinogens, such as polyaromatic hydrocarbons, compared with tobacco cigarettes. "There are higher concentrations of carcinogens in cannabis smoke...what is intriguing to us is there is so little work done on cannabis when there is so much done on tobacco," said Beasley. "In the near future we may see an 'epidemic' of lung cancers connected with this new carcinogen. And the future risk probably applies to many other countries, where increasing use of cannabis among young adults and adolescents is becoming a major public health problem," he added. Study results appear in the in the European Respiratory Journal. Health Question & Answer
