What can I do about my young daughters smelly feet?!

Question: What can I do about my young daughters smelly feet.?
Hello,
I am a new member here and would greatly appreciate some advice for my 14 year old daughter. The problem is she has smelly feet she is highly aware of this and her friends and family around her but so far there has been no solution to her problem.

She is still at school and usually wears ballet flats and white socks, I have tried to stop her wearing no socks as her shoes smell even worse as her feet sweat so much. She has so many pairs of ballet flats but most of them smell quite strong as I encourage her to change shoes very often. On a school day she will often come home and relax and kick off her shoes and I sit with her and ask about her day, she often will have very cheesy feet and her once white socks are very discolored, I hate to nag her to change her socks or shower when she comes home from school and she is a very clean girl and showers regularly. Her sister has no problem and she is 15 years old, she often teases her about her 'cheesy feet' and although it is harmless fun she still feels ashamed.

Would it be best to buy other types of shoes or procede with medical help she is only 14 years old

Well, there are options here, the option I suggest is to try to get her some good ventilated shoes like foam gators(gardening clogs) or some nice comfy sandals that keep her feet exposed to the air ( i.e. flip-flops, gators(gardening shoes), or just plain sandals). often times peoples' feet smell because they sweat. If this is the problem then what i suggested would be a good route to take. Do not wear socks with them, that is where you get the smell. The only time someone who has smelly feet should wear socks is when you are wearing a tennis shoe or a boot, and these are just not recommended for people with smelly feet, but if needed that is what you have to do, but for everyday use just wear a well ventilated shoe and let her feet get a lot of air. As for the ballet flats get her a new pair and put some odor-eater insoles in them and that should cut down on the smell, if she just can't live without them....I suggest the odor-eater insoles for all the shoes she'll be wearing with socks anyway...good investment. But seriously consider some open shoes for her. I think that these are the best options available to you, without going through the embarrassment :) Good Luck to you !Health Question & Answer

I would take her to the doctor, who may refer you to a specialist for something like injections in the feet. Similar to what they do for excessive sweating under the armpit. In the meantime I suppose you could put some talc powder in her shoes to help with absorbing the sweat and smell. It is best to have this taken care of at a young age while she can still tolerate things. Good Luck. Health Question & Answer

Buy 2 or 3 pair of shoes what she would like (or buy with her) and tell her to wash her feet every day. Tell her not to wear the same shoe everyday. Its important for her skin health too. also there are powders can stop the smell can be put on feet and shoes.Health Question & Answer

what you can do is buy her those black school shoes, it's almost impossible to sweat, you can also buy her thinner socks and after she showers completly dry her feet.Health Question & Answer

Some people just have smelly feet.

Check her feet if there is ANY redness or cracks she may have athlete's foot.

Tea tree oil can help

The old treatment was to ware non dyed wool socks and sandals. you do not have to ware the socks.

making sure that the feet get a good amount of air

fungus needs a warm moist dark place to grow so have her put her feet in the sun at least one hour a day.
even if it is through the window.

if she does not have any signs of fungus or when it heals
mixing 10 drops of lavender to every 1/2 cup of distilled water.(making sure that it is 100% essential oils)
put this mix into a spray bottle and spray the feet before putting on her shoes.

by regularly soaking her feet in the following you can help prevent unpleasant foot perspiration and odour
again using 100% essential oils
3 drops of basil oil
3 drops of ginger oil
2 gallons (8 litre) of warm water.

you could get charcoal insoles or put baking soda in her shoes.

Good Luck!

I always remember "Botox" when I hear about hyperhidrosis.

I would just try to use Gold Bond medicated powder. I stopped using antiperspirant last year, so sweat was going to become an issue. I switched to the J/A/S/O/N organic deodorant, but I also use regular baby powder. Thus far, I have not had a problem with odor, so I'd have to say it worked.

I am loathe to push antiperspirants as they are pretty nasty (once you learn about them), but I think it could work in conjunction with foot powder. also, there may be an infection. A treatment of Tinactin for a week might help as well.

Anyway, there are options that become increasingly more expensive and serious. I just think that some hygiene followed by a little prevention is a good shot and a safe place to start.Health Question & Answer

lol when she showers advise her to put sum soap on them....u should tell these symptoms to a doctor (without tellin her) maybe its sum disesase or a gene in the family...
u should also buy better quality socks
look for the best companied socks ther aare and buy all sorts of different famous company socks and try them out
if tht doesnt work try new shoes or quit her ballet for a few weeks and see if they continue to stink..
if they do (even after tryin different socks) then try the doctor
if they dont tht means ballet is to blame...so u need to find some other interest for her besides ballet if the stench is tht bad
u should tell her sis who make fun of her not to since ur a mom im sure u have the authority there is no reason for her to feel bad as its not her fault..u can also check online sources.?.? maybe there are symptoms found online for this it could be pretty common just google it in!!

good luck!~!Health Question & Answer

When she showers, she has to pay particular attention to her feet, and wash them off with Head & Shoulders shampoo. (Yes, it has to be a real anti-dandruff shampoo -- these are also anti-fungal. Use the real thing, the "imitations" you find at the 99 cent store do not work for this purpose).

You should get an anti-fungal foot powder spray and spray it into her shoes. Her shoes must be allowed to dry completely before she puts them on.

She should also use a drying antifungal foot powder like Desenex 2% miconazole nitrate antifungal.

She should wear shoes and socks only when necessary - she should use flip-flops with no socks at home. This will allow her feet to dry completely.

Smelly feet is mostly about bacteria. Once smelly feet arrives it's hard to get rid of and takes a while to be successful. Added to this is your daughter is still going through puberty and she has hormonal issues happening which may not help her sitation.

Firstly, shoes with more synthetics in them are a major cause of smelly feet for a lot of people as they help to make the feet sweat and keep the heat in. Bacteria, as you would know, love this environment.

Yes, she must wear something between her foot and the shoe. Wearing sandals or bare foot while at home will help to dry the foot out faster. Some of the problem will be that the bacteria can remain under toenails. I'm not suggesting she clean her toenails all the time as damage will occur sooner or later.

You have to find a bacterial spray you can spray in the shoes everyday. She shouldn't wear the same shoes two days in a row as the shoe needs time to dry out and bacterial numbers to die off.

Peppermint spray for feet is great for helping to remove some of the odor and the bacteria don't seem to like it much either. Don't apply antiseptic creams/lotions or strong soaps to her feet as you may make the condition worse because you're killing off the healthy bacteria we all need on our feet.

Try leather shoes if you can. It'll take time but the problem should go away sooner or later if you use comonsense. Good luck.Health Question & Answer
