I suffer from occasional very severe menstrual cramps. Every time this happens, I frantically look up appendicitis on the internet to make sure that's not what it is. Any odd stomach cramp or unusual gas, in fact, and I'm convinced I'm in dire danger. I'm oddly preoccupied with this extraneous organ. Is it possible or advisable to have it removed even though it's not currently a problem.? Health Question & Answer

You need to consult your doctor. Cramps and stomach pains around your period are normal. If they are very severe their are painkillers on the market that will reduce the pain and can be purchased over the counter.

Its extremely doubtful that you would find any surgeon that would remove your appendix when nothing is wrong with it.
Its even less likely that any insurance company would pay for removing a healthy appendix.

You will have to undergo general anesthesia for an appendectomy. I sincerely doubt a doctor would agree to knock you out for the sheer purpose of you "worry" about it.
Have you considered, or are you on birth control pills.? Even if you are not sexually active they can greatly help to soothe menstrual craps. Otherwise try Midol or some other OTC cramp reliever.Health Question & Answer
