Bad concentration and tiredness?!


Question: Bad concentration and tiredness.?
Hello, i am 15 and i feel really tired and loose concentration really easy, at school i am not taking anything in because i have like a 10 minute concentration span, i have tried going into sleeping pattern at reasonable times 9pm to 6am for about a month, still no difference, its getting to the point where i just can hardly think anymore, heavy headed and always tired, anyone got any suggestions on what could be causing this, thanks.Health Question & Answer

I would suggest that you visit your doctor, explain your symptoms, and ask for a full blood test, especially checking levels of things such as iron, and Vitamin D as deficiency in these would be very likely to cause the problems you describe.

Pay attention to your diet... dehydration will make you feel tired and lethargic. Drink at least 6 glasses of water daily. Try to eat lots of fresh fruit and veg, lots of complex carbs (whole grains, wholemeal bread etc.) and protein such as nuts, low fat meats, and eggs. Avoid refined sugar as it will give you an energy high followed by a low. If you do have low iron you will probably need to take an iron supplement, but you can also boost your dietary intake of things such as dark green leafy veg and red meat. Eat these with something containing Vitamin C (such as Orange Juice) as it helps your body absorb the iron. If you suspect your diet isn't providing all the nutrients your body needs, you may want to consider a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement (especially one with B vitamins for energy.)

Try to get some exercise every day - even a walk in the fresh air will help refresh you.

If you have a lot of stress try relaxation exercises, especially before you sleep.

At 15 you are probably growing quite fast- this is very hard on the body, so try to keep up at least 8-9 hours of sleep.

Again, maybe, you're just not getting enough sleep, or maybe it's something more. Have you tried talking to someone about what it could be.? You can always go to the doctor, and he/she could give you suggestions on what you could do differently. It could also have to do with your diet. If your eating/dinking bad thing things continuously, like pop, junk food, ect; then that can also have an affect on how you slep, and how you concentrate
