I need to do a presentation on MRSA....how do you think i should do this? ?!

Question: I need to do a presentation on MRSA....how do you think i should do this.? .?
As part of my assignment, i am required to carry out a presentation on the topic of 'how to combat MRSA.' I have got to pretend i am applying for a position of staff nurse at a nursing home and as part of the job application process, i need to do a presentation to the interviewer. But i'm confused as how to go about doing this as i've never done a presentation before in my life!
I am not going to use powerpoint because i don't have it, so how else can i present the information, and would it be as effective.? I was also thinking of giving leaflets out as well but would that be a bit repetitive because i would be talking about how to combat MRSA and then handing out leaflets saying exactly the same thing lol......

any advice on presentations and how i can go about tackling this are much appreciated :)

Much Love

Answers:
Key steps to presentations

How long is it supposed to be
Who is the target audience
What materials do you have

In general, you want to decide how long it should take to discuss each key point that you bring up before the interview.

Now you know your assignment: How to combat MRSA

Consider
What is MRSA
What are the routes of infection
How can these routes be stopped

The last point is your key point.

So, I would ask for a flipchart and then write

What is MRSA.?
I would then explain very briefly that it is a staph bacterium that is resistant to most conventional antibiotics. It is particularly troublesome in hospitals and other areas where there are open wounds and immunocompromised people.

Next point, write:

How is it spread.?

Mention indirect patient to patient contact (ie through a nurse or doc with unwashed hands). It can also be spread by dirty equipment. Mention that visitors are particularly likely to spread the infection due to ignorance about basic hygiene procedures.

Your last point is the main one. This you should devote the most time to.

A few pointers: basic hygiene, ways to encourage hand washing amongst visitors (perhaps under the supervision of a nurse) ways to prevent "in house" contaminations (disciplinary action if necessary) and so on.

This way you layer your arguments

Dont forget to ask if there are any questions at the end and then say thank you.Health Question & Answer

Nursing research conferences use poster boards for the display of their studies. Its really popular & effective.

Power point is sometimes boring & who wants to listen to someone "read information" to them.?

Create a factual poster board and present the material in a professional manner.

Always site your sources! and It would also be nice to incorporate some of the new hand care/hand wash products.Health Question & Answer

Why not go to the chemist and pick up various hand jells, medicated soaps, wipes etc and discuss how each one works and how effective or ineffective it is. Research various ways in which the infection is spread and how it can be combated if possible take along props to reinforce the point (not only personal hygiene but also hygienic cleaning). Hope this is of some help. Good luck.Health Question & Answer
