There's a stone in his NECK!?!

Question: There's a stone in his NECK!.?
My friend's father (I think he's in his early 50's) was in a bad rear end accident about 5 wks ago and it tore muscles in his back and that's all. He had some surgery for this and all was getting better. Last week he noticed a large (golf ball sized) lump under his chin on this throat. He immediately went to the DR. Today they told him it is NOT cancer...(Idk if this is related to the car accident or not, probably not but I thought I'd mention it) THEY TOLD HIM THERE IS A STONE IN HIS NECK! A STONE!.?!.?!.?! Idk how the stone got in there, no one does! He hasn't had a surgery in that area. It's in his neck, under his tongue. They are doing surgery first thing tomorrow and are taking out a gland...they said they couldn't get to the stone b/c of how delicate the area is but they're going to help the bump, etc. Has anyone EVER heard of anything like this.? Answers:
The stones are in his salivary glands, they develop over time. My girlfriend had them and because they block saliva they can be painfull and they can cause infections. You can develop stones in your body and they need to be removed because they cause obstructions.Health Question & Answer

It was THE GLAND, that you talked about... they can become swollen, infected, etc and are occasionally removed, especially if they become like how you described. It wasn't a stone stone... not like a rock you'd get off the ground.Health Question & Answer
