What could have caused my Dad's death?!

Question: What could have caused my Dad's death.?
My step Dad was diagnosed with Lung Cancer on March 11th 2008. He was given chemo and radiation and went into remission. Every check showed him to be in radical remission. Sept 11, he had a massive heart attack, he had 2 stents put in and was doing really well. After a month, he went to have a full check up and was given a clean bill of health. The next day he felt fine all day, then started coughing up large amounts of blood. He died. He couldn't breath. Any suggestions on what could have caused this.? No autopsy was done. My mom couldn't stand the thought of that. It is killing me wondering what happend. I believe in God..and that it was his time...I just wonder what happend...wouldn't you.? Health Question & Answer

Answers:
He may not have had any obvious cancerous growths, which to a doctor spells "remission." since they cannot find any gross or "proximate" cause for cancer, and at the time showed no active malignant growths.
But here you may want to borrow an anatomy text to find out the structures of the lungs and how they work, plus the organs that border and depend on. The one thing that will stand out is the fragility of lung tissue--it must be very thin so that cells bringing oxygen can travel through their walls one way while cells bearing CO2 travel the other way. The alveoli, or air sacs, are thinner than tissue paper but must be full of blood cells. Furthermore, the lungs are fed oxygen from the pulmonary arteries, which generate substantial , both from the heart and from their own surrounding muscle tissue.

So when the lungs are thinned out, the body's own natural processes can overwhelm their tissues, and blood starts leaking. Naturally, the body orders coughing to relieve the organs of unwanted water, and sooner or later parts of the lungs just give way.

I don't mean to belittle the terrible ordeal he and his loved ones went through, but sometimes knowledge can help--and with this info you can go to your pulmonary and cardiac specialists with "how" and use it as a door to "why."Health Question & Answer

Sounds like the cancer ate him up. Maybe he hid the results of the medical tests from you so you wouldn't worry. I know that sometimes dying people get better right before they die. I'm sorry this happened. I watched my grandfather do basically the same thing when I was little. Cancer is a terrible disease, I wish it would go away.....Health Question & Answer

I'm so sorry that happened. What did the doctors say was the cause of death.?
My personal opinion is that the combination of the lung cancer and the heart attack were just too much for his body to handle.
He's in a better place now. Remember that. :(Health Question & Answer

Check and see the side affects of having 'stents' in your body. But coughing up blood, could mean it was coming from his lungs also. Couldn't you talk to his doctor.? Health Question & Answer
