Can people really "Power Nap"?!


Question: Can people really "Power Nap".?
power nap meaning that the person gets the equivalent of 6-8 hours of sleep in a 30 minute power nap.

I worked with a very smart man recently - he was a genius, really. He would invent things around the office to fix our problems (and that wasn't even his job). He could teach you the most complicated things by using simple methods, making it perfectly clear.

This man swore that human beings didn't need 8 hours of sleep per night. He said that you only had to sleep when you felt tired. Once in a while, he'd be in the middle of a sentence and then say something like, "I'm sleepy. I'll get back to you in fifteen minutes." He'd vanish into his office and come out fifteen minutes later, refreshed.

I don't know how he did it. I need to go to sleep and wake up on a regular basis, getting 8 hours. But this man, Joseph was his name, could sip in little naps and then keep on going at a mindbending pace.

Strange thing...Joseph could never understand why the rest of the world needed to sleep so much. And so regularly. To him, we were all the weirdos. His world was concrete - sleep only when you need to. My world is also concrete - go to sleep every night and stay that way for 8 hours.

It's like I always say...not all brains are created equally. Some require only power naps, and the rest need the whole 8 hour she-bang. I like to compare it to this: some people are geniuses with math but they can't spell worth a darn. Some are gifted at english but need to pack a calculator when shopping.

I don't think that 30 minutes of sleep is equivalent to 6-8 hours of sleep. However, studies show that a 1 hour 'power nap' is equivalent to 3 hours of sleep at night. So that would mean in order to feel like you got 8 hours of sleep you have to power nap for 2 1/2 hours or so. But you also have to have the right kind of nap for it to be a 'power nap'. It needs to be a deeper sleep where your brain is fully resting as well. Health Question & Answer

you can, if you get a ton of rem sleep in that period of time. but you muist stay away for several days before then, or else theres no hope.Health Question & Answer

Well, A power nap is QUITE refreshing, But the thing is to properly power nap you need to nap but not fall asleep of get groggy :) I powersleep in classes I have A's In IronyyyyyHealth Question & Answer

I know people I work with who can do this, I however tend to go into overtime on my naps by a few hours.
