Question: What would you like toIs autism a global issue, or is it only an issue in industrialized nations.? ask.?
I am just curious whether autism is a global issue, or just an issue in countries where children get immunizations. Are there studies.? On the Today Show, doctors were claiming that autism just surfaces around the same time children are immunized. Wouldn't this be easy to prove by assessing the rates of autism in children of underdeveloped nations (who haven't been immunized).?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Autism is a global problem, rates are about the same the world over, and the only link between autism and immunization is that the first signs of autism show up around the same age that certain immunization are given.

A while back somebody claimed that the triple MMR shot caused autism, so they looked at country that had the triple shot and a country that didn't (US V Japan, I think) and they found that autism rates were the same in both countries. Basically, it's all scaremongering with no truth behind it. Autism rates were also found to be similar in countries without certain shots.

The idea that autism is increasing is also a myth caused by a manipulation of statistics. What is happening is 1) more people with mild autism are being detected, when they would just have been labeled dumb before. 2) Parents are pushing doctors to label their children as being autistic (Usually as having aspergers, which is a form of autism) because they refuse to accept that their child has a social mis function brought about by nurture rather than nature (basically, that their kid is withdrawn because of the way that they are raised).Health Question & Answer
