What precautions do I take to prevent becoming an alcoholic?!

Question: What precautions do I take to prevent becoming an alcoholic.?
I have the perfect setup for it: family history, addictive personality (all of these are genetic predisposition), a high tolerance, and other psychological factors such as being part of an ethnic group that is expected to drink (Irish).

I got drunk for the first time last night and it was so fun, but I just want to be mature about this situation and set up barriers for myself knowing I'm set up for alcoholism in this way. (I'm 19 by the way....shhh don't tell!!)Health Question & Answer

Answers:
There is no way to prevent alcoholism besides abstinence. Both of my parents and both sets of grandparents are/were alcoholics. The risk is so much higher for people with family history. If you do partake, see if you can stop before you get drunk. If you feel a compulsion to keep going, that's a red flag. I feared becoming an alcoholic because of my family history so I did not drink until I was 19 when I met and later married a military man who believes that drinking to excess is acceptable to do on occasion. Within 3 years I was a full blown alcoholic and I didn't even see it creeping up on me. I am now 27 and with lots of support (from that same man who got me started), I have been sober for 11 months. Be very careful. Health Question & Answer

Sounds like you kind of know what to look for.

1. Don't drink till your drunk when you do drink. Every now and then is fine but not every time.

2. Don't drink often. At the most keep it at twice a month maybe.?

3. Wait till your 21.

~~~or~~~~
Don't drink at all. Bring your own drink with you to a party if you have to. Health Question & Answer
It's impossible to become an alcoholic if you don't drink.Health Question & Answer
