Question: How can i get rid of RAZOR BURN.?.?.? help!.?

so i've tried everything. EVERYTHING. taking a shower before i shave to loosen up the skin. clean the blade after each swipe. short strokes with even pressure upon it, sensitive skin shaving cream. shaving with the grain. NOTHING WORKS

i naturally have thick, curly hair so it's perfect for razor burn to happen. ESPECIALLY ON MY NECK. i'm using a 3 blade razor and replace the blade after every 4 or 5 occasions. ANYONE know the secret to shaving for a guy with bad razor burn.?.?Health Question & Answer

Hey Bud,

First of all are you white or black. It's quite a bit different for people with black skin to fight razor burn effectively and it sucks for them. One of my partners is black and he constantly fights ingrown hairs, razor bumps and razor burn. If you are white it's much, much easier and here are some tips for you if so.

#1) There is NO better shave than to pay the few extra bucks it takes to pay the barber you use to give you a shave every now and then. There is no better, more comfortable, close and smooth feeling shave then you get from that straight razor after he sharpens it on that leather strop a few times. If I could afford it I would get it done every single time. It feels so good and is so close that you don't have to shave nearly as often. I have asked him about me personally learning to use the straight razor on myself and after he chuckled he said he would hate for me to bleed out after slitting my throat on accident because it's difficult to get the proper angle without cutting yourself. These are the tips and tricks he taught me and it is as close to his shave as you can get, so here are my tips and tricks for you to try.

#1) Take the hottest, steamiest shower you can before shaving, taking a clean white towel in with you so it gets super hot and steamy. When your shower is finished, wring out your towel and head directly to the sink and get the hotttest water running you can and wring out your towel. Once the towel is as hot as possible, wrap it around your face and let it sit and get your beard and face as hot as you can take it.

#2) Go to the thrift store and find yourself an oversized ceramic mug and take it home and clean it well before using. Go to the pharmacy and in the shaving section find a bar of shaving soap, the round bars seem to be the best and also fit the bottom of the round mug the best.
With the soap will be a selection of shaving brushes. Choose the stiffest that you can find. Use the hottest water you can stand and remember the hotter the better as it makes your beard stand up best. Once the brush is nice and wet place it in the mug and swirl it fast and hard against the wet soap. The harder the better as you will see that you get a nice stiff foamy lather. Take the lather and rub it on your beard in tight circles, around and around. The harder and harder you do it the better the lather will be. Later it up several times until you get a thick, foamy lather and you will feel your beard stand up at attention. I like the Sensor Mach 3 but use your favorite razor, but the multiple blade type with the rubber on one side that pulls at your beard and helps stand it up is best. There are many techniques for shaving, some prefer shaving from the neck up to the nose, against the grain but I was taught and prefer the method of going down with the grain. I shave and rinse often, cleaning the beard from the razor as it tends to clog it up and dull the blade. I then start all over. Clean the blade; wash your face with hot, hot water and lather. Now shave all over again. If you have never shaved with shaving soap instead of foam before I think you will notice a difference. When you are finished make sure you rinse the blade really well and you will notice it stays sharper a lot longer. Once you rinse it dry it really well. I even use the hair dryer on it for a second. This dries it quickly and keeps any rust from starting. I then use my regular cologne to close up my pores. I happen to use Polo sport right now but another nice finish is made by Crabtree and Evelyn. They make two nice products that are a bit citrusy like lime. 1st I rub my face down with the aftershave liquid and let it dry real quick but the next product feels awesome and tends to leave absolutely not burns or ingrown hairs. They make a product called shaving balm. It's in the same shape and size bottle as the cologne but is white. with the same citrusy fragrance. Pour a little in your hand and rub your face down. It will tighten up your face and make your pores nice and tight. It smells good and lasts a long time.
I hope this helps you a little and let me know if it works for you.
