My friend told me that last night she had a bad cramp in her leg and had to crawl out of bed onto the floor to get to her cell to call her mom who was down the hall to come help her. She said she had a lump in her calf and was really cold but her leg was hot and she was flushed and she was all the sudden starving. The lump went away but she is too stubborn to go to the doctor to see what was wrong. I want to help her end I have been all over the internet but I cant figure out whats wrong. Sounds like a typical Charlie Horse cramp. Very painful! The flushing and being cold was probably panic from the pain and not knowing what was going on.
According to the sources below, magnesium and potassium deficiencies as well as hormone imballances, dehydration and simply excersise can lead to them as well.
I used to get them as a teen. I followed this common advise: keeping the leg straight, grab the foot of the affected leg by the toes and gently pull it back towards the leg, then hold for a few moments and repeat until the cramp starts to work it's way out.Health Question & Answer

It was a muscle cramp - these can happen from dehydration, and from vitamin/mineral deficiencies. The muscle will make a knot and the cramping is almost unbearable. The only thing to do is massage it until it relaxes. She does need to drink more water, and she needs to take some vitamins. If she is dieting she could have a wee bit of malnourishment as well, so she needs to start eating a little better - adding bananas and other fruits and vegetables to make sure she is getting her vitamins and minerals.
