There really is not anything that you need to do (that I know of anyway) I would just make sure that you clean your ear when you take the earring out and try to make sure it stays clean. As for the lump it probably won't go away it is scare tissue some people get it and others don't.Health Question & Answer
I was forced to stop wearing earrings due to problems with allergies/inflammation, and the holes eventually closed after a long time. I didn't have to do anything to prepare for it, and it was something that I barely even noticed.
