How long does it take to become addicted to Valium (Diazepam)?!

Question: How long does it take to become addicted to Valium (Diazepam).?
I took it for 2 and half wks for severe alcohol withdrawal, starting at 30mg a day then down to 20mg for a few days and then down to 10mg a day- i would take it usually in the morning, lunch and dinner and my last few days i was using 2mg tabs-the white ones. Silly as it seems it totally 'cured' my anxiety i also suffer terribly with and out of everything i have tried this totally make me feel on a level again-like i was when i was younger - im 36 now... I asked the doctor for more but she refused saying that did not want to replace one addiction with another....which is true as i was finding myself after only 1 WEEK, looking at the clock and thinking ' oh goody, its nearly Valium time'!...and then 20 mins later, that warm chilled out feeling is there and then everything ok....Ive even 'missed' taking it - (as in missed the feeling it gave me) as ive stopped now and my anxiety has returned.. (I havnt taken it for 2 wks now)I have even been looking on line to see where i can buy it - bad idea i know...if anyone has similar experiences drop me a line, id be very interested and grateful for any recommendations of a more modern prescription drugs that the doctor WILL give me - she has given Citalopram.?.?.? Ive heard quite a few horror stories to take it so , the box.remains unopened....Thanks in advance...:)Health Question & Answer

i was halfway through giving you what i deemed good advice when my answer was deleted. Therefore I will edit. Forget Valium its a Son of a B..... extremely addictive and your tolerance levels (withing 2 wks) will soon outway the pros Ask your doc for Chlordiazapoxide (librium) which will/can help with alcochol withdrawl. In conjunction with that there is another medication called antibuse which will make you throw up if taken with alcohol. Georgie Best had antibuse pellets stapled to his stomach. Where is the guy now.? Will power is a great incentive and rehab, albeit hard, can help you with your problem. Please dont substitute your alcohol intake with "downers". Its simply that - a substitute. But make sure your doc supervises you. I pray for you. I know what you are going through. Please, please, please make an appt with your GP asap xHealth Question & Answer

I'm an alcoholic who stopped drinking eight years ago, I got addicted to Valium for a few months, about four years ago. I got mine on the black market, though. The withdrawals are absolutely horrendous, leave them well alone. They're widely believed to be worse than heroin withdrawals, although I couldn't vouch for that. I thought I was going to die.Health Question & Answer

diazpiam is highly addictive that why they are never really precribed in high dosages or for a long length of time.

citalopram is a SSRI so it will help you, this drugs are made from two seperate compounds and are NOT thought to be addictive

i dont know but if you asking your probably aditedHealth Question & Answer

Talk to your Dr. about this. She maybe able to prescribe you something for your anxiety spells.

Any type of pain killer can be addicting.

If you feel uncomfortable with the Citalopram, don't take it, and tell your Dr. that you don't want to take it.

With all medications, there are some side effects that can seem horrible, but that is the chance you must take.

To cure alcohol withdrawal, you should take something like Unithiol, aka Dimoval, aka 2,3-Dimercapto-1-propanesulfonic acid, aka DMPS. It is one of the most powerful antioxidants known to man.

Now to answer your question: it may take just a single pill to get addicted, but usually it's more like a two-week period. Valium is pretty nasty. Withdrawal can be painful, very much like heroin withdrawal.

The solution is... cold turkey. Stay the hell away from benzos.Health Question & Answer
