Why are vitamins so high in daily percent values?!

Question: Why are vitamins so high in daily percent values.?
taking my daily vitamins today,
I checked the nutritional facts to see how many the serving size suggests.
then I find out that one of my b12 vitamins is 16,337% of your daily value.
so I got curious and read other labels,
and some said 9,333% of your daily value,
or 6,442% of your daily value.

is that healthy.? should I start buying less strong pills.?

Most vitamins are water soluble. That means that what your body doesn't need right now, you dump out in your pee (that's why your pee is so bright yellow and smells funny after you take a vit B complex - that's the extra vitamin).

The other thing is that just because you put that much in your mouth in the form of a pill doesn't mean that you body is able to break it all down into a form that it could use. Even if you did need it all, your body would still excrete part of it in your poo.

A lot of docs say that if you eat right, especially your fruits and veggies, then you don't really even need vitamins. Health Question & Answer

no theyre safe those are water soluble vitamins where as vitamins A, D, and K will kill you since theyre fat soluble and take time to get rid of them. The water soluble vitamins such as the B complex vitamins are simply taken out by the kidneys and end up in your piss (thats why your pee turns bright greens after taking them its the B vitamins). For water soluble its better safe than sorry so they include so much and the RDA amount is the MINIMUM any person should have some people may require more. You dont really need multivitamins unless your a very picky eater lol, all the nutrition should come from food. Even for some fat soluble vitamins they are planning to raise the RDA on them, Vitamin D was raised quite a bit recently. The RDA isnt an exact science and remember the RDA is the minimum to prevent diseases like scurvy so if your food contains the same vitamins as your multivitamins i wouldnt worry much unless you eat it excessively like how eating too many carrots turns you orange and its not an exact science.Health Question & Answer

The numbers come from the Feds and they are based on what a panel of Docs (not nutritionists) believe is the MINIMUM a body needs to not get a certain disease associated with that vitamin. Not the optimum amount for health but the minimum to prevent a certain disease. like beri-beri or rickets.
If you have normal kidneys and take in to much of any B vitamin you get rid of it with no problems. B12 is lacking in many diets, especially those of vegetarians. Many nutritionists and docs recommend even large amounts than your vitamin has.
