He is very active.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
12 kilos= 26.4 pounds. That's about the 4th percentile for his age, so a bit on the small side.

If he is healthy otherwise (if he's very active, he's healthy) then you shouldn't worry. Children will not starve themselves. Just make sure he has access to food he likes, but don't try to force him to eat.

I'd suggest you take him to the pediatrician for a checkup, just to be certain there isn't a problem going on. Health Question & Answer

My daughter went through something similar at that age, we had months of her eating very little, our doctor gave us the way out.

He told us to get her to eat something, it doesn't matter what at this point, sweets, cakes, ice-cream, bread and Jam, anything is better than nothing.

We started off with a couple of things she would eat in very small quantities, we asked her what she wanted and gave her lots of choice.
She soon came bored, moved onto to small amounts of other things and eventually got her onto a breakfast cereal with milk, it was literally like going back to her starting to eat solid as a baby
.
The next move was baked beans which is a brilliant food to have as it gives the body a good range of things it needs.
See if you can get him to have the 'cheewy sweet' type vitamin tablets.

Then she had a few more things, and more, etc and a year later is was if it had never happened.
She's 9 years old now and eats just about everything, she likes loads of fruit and veg, curries, fish, in fact a much wider range of food than i did at that age.

I think the worse thing you can do is force her, ask him what he likes and take him shopping to the supermarket with you.

I'm sure things will work themselves out, i've heard about this so many times from friends and my daughter is proof there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Health Question & Answer

When you say he refuses to eat, do you mean he eats nothing at all.? If he eats nothing, then you should see your doctor. But if he doesn't eat much or is very fussy, then that is quite normal. The usual advice is to keep offering different foods and to not get stressed - otherwise refusing to eat becomes a means of getting your attention. If he doesn't eat, then try and ignore it, and make a fuss when he does eat well. If he is hungry he will eat. Don't let him snack on sweets and crisps etc between meals, so that the food he does have is good stuff. Is he tall.? 12kg is ok if he is quite small for his age, but otherwise it is quite low, but if you are thin too then it could just be genetic. Health Question & Answer

First and foremost, you must take him to the physician. If he turns out to be medically stable, give him supplemental drinks to boost his caloric intake. Kids like these because they tast like milkshakes. However, he may have a metabolic disorder that is fooling his body into believing he is not hungry. 12 kilos is small for a 3-year old.Health Question & Answer

your son is just under the average weight but to be more precise you should check his BMI (body mass index)

http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/healthyw...

this is a good link, it tells you the BMI of your son and comapres it to how other kids in his gender and age are, what his weight should be and how to achieve/maintain the ideal healthy weight for your child

you would need to enter the height, weight, age and gender of ur child

if u see this as a problem that is still going on for a while, you should either see a doctor or nutritionist for professional advice....

do you know the reasons behind him not eating.?.? if he's not liking the food, try making food he likes/eat with him/make it fun!! you could also give him vitamins so he wont suffer from vitamin difficiency

and its perfectly normal and wonderful that he is active....all 3 year olds are!!

hope this was helpful :)Health Question & Answer

Don't force him to eat, that's an idiotic suggestion. Is he fit, healthy and happy.? If so then don't worry.

If not then there may be an underlying medical or psychological problem which should be dealt with.Health Question & Answer
