The best thing recommended by doctors is that you tap your nail on the study table or any flat surface.if you keep doing it,you will develop a tendency to do it more and more, just to hear the sound of your nails.

I am a chronic nail biter.I have tried horrible tasting nail polish et all.
to no use.
The only time i have seen a visible reduction in my nail biting is when i tap like that.
But i only sit at my study table during my exam times...:D.
So,i grow nails during my exams, just becoz i do the tapping on my books etc.
But once my exams are finished i start biting it...due to my tension for the exam results,..hahaa.
So do this.Health Question & Answer

I bite my nails too, don't worry too much.

It actually sounds like you DO have a habit - after having short/no nails, it'll feel weird having them long again as you're not used to it.

There's many products on the market that claim to stop nailbiting - but none of them really worked with me. Although, the hand gel that's meant to clean your hands with no water - Cuticura, for example - Really does make your hands taste awful, so it does tend to stop me.

Other than that, all I can recommend is finding something to keep your fingers occupied to keep them away from your mouth.

Hope all goes well.Health Question & Answer

Well I have a habit of peeling my nails I guess you could say, so I'm sure it's not too different.

If your a girl, which i'm assuming you are. Keep your nails cut short. You can't bite something that's not there. also paint your nails. I paint my nails all the time, and it keeps me from wrecking them especially if it comes out nice. Paint a nice fresh coat on top, then layer them with a clear polish. When you bite them, you'll bit onto the nail polish and it tastes disgusting. Hope this helps!Health Question & Answer

OMG!!! OMG!!! Your joking i started biting my nails when i was 11 also.. (16 now) It's my friends fault. Anyway my sister gave me some clear nail polish and when it hit my tongue it burnt like hell. (not sure if it was nail polish) But that didn't work for me because i just kept my tongue away from my fingers. This is getting my depressed. 6th year now.. sigh

I'm a boy too, but if you want it so badly then do what is necessary.Health Question & Answer

buy a nail biting solution at boots (if ur local..if not try any other pharmacy). it tastes sour and u cant wash it off. it just wears off on its own. it might prevent u from eating with ur hands or u can be careful and not bring ur hands near ur mouth. sounds extreme but in cases like this u might need it.Health Question & Answer

Keep your nails trimmed with clippers and then you will not have the feeling that causes you to chew them.

-or-

Ask someone who is with you a lot to smack you when they see you doing it. It'll be fun for them and may get you to quit.Health Question & Answer

I have been biting my nails since I can remember (I'm 18 now)
I bite them pretty much every day, if not just chew on them.
At first I did do it out of nervousness, but now it's just a habit.
Like, I will be sitting in class and all of the sudden I realize I'm chewing on my fingernails, weird, I know.
I have tried painting them, but I just end up chipping off the paint and then I proceed to bite them.
Some say that you should find another habit to take place of the nail biting, but then you are left with another habit (back to square one).
Others say you should do something to keep your hands busy, or chew on something else (gum, etc...)
Studies also show that a habit can be stopped in 21 days.
Maybe we both should try breaking this habit.
