Should a person eat more when they are sick than they usually do?!

Question: Should a person eat more when they are sick than they usually do.?
Obviously, healthy food like veggies and fruits...
I've been sick for 3 days and I have had NO appetite, but I ate anyway... I'm just wondering whether I should be eating more than usual. On the average day, I consume about 1200 calories (I'm not very active, so its appropriate). Is that too little for a body fighting a cold.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
generally when your sick, you lose your apetite..your taste buds will all be numb, everything is tasteless for you...having a cold is worse, cause your sense of smell is the first sense that sends signals to your brain how good your food will be, and its part of tasting the food..its hard to eat like the way you used to...and yes, you need to eat more food at this time because your body is fighting an infection and it needs a lot of protein and carbohydrates to burn a lot of energy..Health Question & Answer

You have no hunger because your body is concentrating on getting well and doesn't want to be sidetracked by digesting food. Drink more fluids to help wash out the body and if you think you need to eat --juice your veggies. It takes less energy for the body to digest liquids and more left for healing . Listen to your body, it knows what it needs.Health Question & Answer

Like rafie said, a sick body needs more energy to repair itself. also, it's not just a matter of calories; you need nutrition. Don't worry about eating too much at this time, otherwise you won't recover properly. Health Question & Answer

i always lose my appetite when i'm sick, but yes you are supposed to still be eating because food gives you energy and helps your immune system. force down what you can, but if it makes you feel more sick then stop.Health Question & Answer
