Do you get the flu shot? Do you still get sick?!

Question: Do you get the flu shot.? Do you still get sick.?
Answers:
I never got it =) I have worked in the medical field for years and it was recommended but I was always sick when it was time. You can not get it of you already have a compromised immune system. I have had the flu only once and it was a few years before they started giving vaccines. It is AWFUL and you will know if you have it. I get all 3 of my children vaccinated as they are asthmatic and my son had it and he had to be hospitalized.Health Question & Answer

Yes the flu shot is composed of a series of weakened and or modified flu viruses the CDC thinks you will likely be exposed to in a flu season. The flu vaccine confers a certain level protection to you by teaching your body to recognize and fight flu viruses you are likely to be exposed to. However the immune system takes time to fully activate and respond when first exposed to a target flu virus attack. So even if you have taken the flu shot your body will experience some flu like symptoms during the antibody creating lag time it uses to fully mobilize its forces to fight any flu infection you are exposed to.

So yes you might experience a short period of sick time after exposure to a flu virus for which you have received a flu shot. The flu shot is not meant to prevent all flu related sickness. The true purpose of the flu shot is to prevent death that occurs if the body is unable to recognize and mobilize its defenses in time. Flu shots teach the body how to recognize and defeat otherwise deadly flu viruses that would overwhelm its resources without help.

The logic behind flu shots is simple. Most people perfer a few days of discomfort while their bodies learn to overcome flu viruses to the alternative of painful flu caused death. So get your flu shot and if you get a little sick take a day off live happy in the knowledge that you won't die like many did in the flu pandemics in the early 1900's.

That depends on how much defense your body has against whatever type of flu that is in the shot. That's how y'all are fooled into taking it. The type of flu in the shot is only deadly to about .1% of the population; and that is usually the real young. If, when you get the shot, your body does not have the defenses set up to fight the strain, you will get the effects that your body goes through to fight it off because they are introducing a dead bacteria into your system. .1% of 300,000,000 is still a pretty large number, but we have immigrants, easterners, wildlife, poor water supplies, bad food, etc. and that convinces people to take the shot, but God made a natural defense against it. I don't get the flu shot anymore. Even though they are using less egg in the mixture, I can have severe reactions to it. Last time I did get a shot, I didn't get the flu but had a cold for almost 6 months that would not go away. Plus the reaction I had wasn't very fun. So I just avoid them now with a passion. I get less sick from them if I don't take it.Health Question & Answer

Yes I did get a flu shot. It is still possible for you to get the flu (but far less likely), but it won't be as bad. You also still get colds - 2 so far...Health Question & Answer

Some report that they get the flu even with the flu shot. Health Question & Answer
