Donating Blood....preparations?!

Question: Donating Blood....preparations.?
Canadian Blood Services is dangerously low on blood. I wish to donate as they are coming to my university this coming Monday (the 17th). The last time I gave blood was a disaster, it was a spur of the moment thing and didn't eat that day.

I know...stupid.

But besides eating breakfast an hour or so before hand, what can I do to not black out lol and make this go smoothly.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Eat a proper breakfast, they will provide you with orange juice and usually a cookie as the sugars will help to restore your blood.

Staying calm and maintaining your steady breathing will help, as well as asking to sit in a relaxed position with your feet up.

I have an incredibly hard time donating blood due to my fear of needles. Its hard to overcome but trying calming techniques that work for you will surely help considerably.

Good luck!Health Question & Answer

Don't think about it and don't worry! I had to give blood before and I have an EXTREME fear of needles. I just took a deep breath, closed my eyes and thought about something else other than the fact that I was getting a needle put into my skin. Don't eat a few hours before you give blood. Good luck! :)Health Question & Answer

Eat a healthy iron rich meal before you go to donate. Eat take the cookies and juice they offer you while there. And be sure to eat nutritiously the rest of the day. That is really the key here.Health Question & Answer
