Answers:
There are several different levels of EMT. There is basic, intermediate and paramedic. Becoming an EMT-B is pretty easy. The school lasts 2 to 3 months and is about half classroom and half practical (hospital and EMS). After you have become an EMT-B, you can go to either intermediate or medic school. There is not much of a difference in school between paramedic and intermediate, so if you have the option go paramedic. Medic school lasts about 18 months to 2 years depending on where you go. Most of that is classroom, but you will do about 2 months of clinical at the end. Medic school is challenging to say the least. Expect to spend most of your time studying. I would suggest doing some ride outs with your local fire department or EMS service to see if it's for you before investing the time and money. EMS has a very high burnout rate. It's a stressful job that most can't handle.Health Question & Answer
