omg i was just searching for answers to this question
i'm 17 years old and i'm the same but not to as great an extent
here's an idea, have a close supportive friend or relative sleepover with you one night in a room with a dimmer or your bedroom and just keep talking to them, keep the mood light and regularly turn it down.
don't feel afraid to hold their hand or anything like that but keep the mood light and just talk and joke and see if you can last like that until you feel the fear subsibe to around 50%
once you are alrite with staying in a dim room by urself try sitting in the dark without holding onto anyone but with a family or friend close by to flip on the light as soon as you say and again try to stay still until 50% of the fears gone
hopefully you can gradually be able to be in ur room by urself with the light off doing the same thing.
why do you think you are scared of the dark btw.?
i'm really interested to know.
for me its fear of the unknown. i don't trust the dark.

EDIT: ooh just thought of something else.
when i'm lying in bed at night with the lights off and i get the urge to flick on my light often to check everythings alrite, or when i'm putting the bin out in the dark oooh! anyway i think to myself, am i that scared and do i really believe somethings out there enough to call the police or anything like that. then i realise i'm not, its just in ur imagination u hype it up so its worse than it is. again its just increasing how long i can stay in the dark without checking or trusting my eyes to close.
best of luck! :)Health Question & Answer

It seems to me that you have two problems.
(1) You are afraid of the dark
(2) Your boyfriend does not understand this issue you have (or far, far worse: he does not care!)

Firstly, if your BF knows and does not care about your feelings, please drop him like a... like a..., well, like a BAD BOYFRIEND! If he does not know how you feel, you need to communicate this to him privately and seriously. If your boyfriend likes to make you cry, he is not a good boyfriend.

Secondly, if you are afraid of the dark at 16, you probably have some kind of left-over issues from when you were a kid. You should look into getting some therapy about this. I am not kidding or making fun of you. I mean that sincerely. Get some help with an expert who deals with these kinds of problems. It will be embarrassing (at first), but if you try to go with it, therapy can be very helpful. also, you may be having some sleep issues too, but your therapist will figure that out too. Take care.

well first i would start leaving a closet light on with ur door shut
next i would try only a hall light with ur door open
or a lava lamp so it looks like u want it for decoration
if u have a labtop leave it open and night next to ur bed so it seems like u feel asleep while u were on the computer
if u have a tv in ur room press pause on a nice cute part that u like that should give u sum light
WHICH EVER ONE WORKS FOR U Health Question & Answer

I know people who are scared too, its not your fault and if people can't accept it, well who are they too judge they were once scared of the dark once. Just remember that in the darkest of times there is always light. The sun has to rise eventually and the moon and stars gleam on the darkest of nights.Health Question & Answer
