You need to see your doctor again. You're definitely on the wrong medication. You should ask him what he thinks about Ambien CR for you. The CR means it should put you to sleep AND keep you asleep. Maybe the non-generic would work better for you, although it might be expensive.
You could also ask about the Elavil route. That comes in generic that works just fine.
If this doctor can't help you, ask for a referral to a psychiatrist. Not because you're crazy! That's just an old stigma. They go to school an extra 4 years, and are so smart when it comes to insomnia and medications. My mother had BAD insomnia from ages 9-60. 2-3 hours of sleep was a GOOD night. It was hell. Finally after trying everything, she found a psychiatrist through a sleep lab. He put her on Elavil and another med that starts with a Q (I forget) and now she sleeps 7 hours a night, and is a very young 79 years old. It's the closest thing to a miracle I've ever seen. She wakes up feeling great and refreshed.
So, there is lots of hope for you! Yep! I think seeing a psychiatrist may just be your answer!
Bless you and good luck! :)Health Question & Answer
