In the morning, my saliva is really thick - why? ?!

Question: In the morning, my saliva is really thick - why.? .?
Okay, sorry if this is a bit gross.

Whenever I wake up, my teeth have a kind of layer of mucus on them (looks and feels like thicker saliva).

Any ideas what causes this, or how to get rid of it.?Health Question & Answer

My son has something very similar to this. The dentist says it is not unusual or anything, but it could cause a buildup of plaque and later gum disease. He also said it might be because my son does not drink enough water or dehydration. It could also be a problem called Halitosis. Check out the link below.Health Question & Answer

If you are on medications, maybe that is the cause. A lot of meds have a dry mouth side effect. Check any meds you are on to see if it has that side effect. Health Question & Answer

All you have to do is to hydrate more and that will dilute the saliva and thus making it less thick. Good luck.Health Question & Answer

Sleeping allows mucus to accumulate so when you finally wake there's a build up.Health Question & Answer
