Why do I do this? Is it normal?!

Question: Why do I do this.? Is it normal.?
I will just give you an example because it is hard to explain. I went downstairs to get a box of Special K, but there was three boxes (all the exact same). Normally you would just grab a box, but not me. I thought about grabbing the box in the middle, but I grabbed the one on the right instead. It was bugging me until I got upstairs, so I had to go back downstairs and get the box that was in the middle.

If I don't get or do what I wanted originally, it will bother me until I do. Like a little with a go, I was making some perogies. I scooped 4 out of the bag, but dropped one back in by accident. So anyone else would just scoop out a new one, but I had to get the exact one I dropped.

I have to double check locks, make sure computers are logged off, check my e-mail even if I just checked in 5 minutes ago, or I can't fall asleep.

If I am writing something and spell a word wrong or messy, I have to start over. Like on a new piece of paper, just start over.

This happens at least 4 times a day, why.?

The real question is if you do this if front of other people or only when you are alone. If you do this anytime and in public then you have a serious case of ocd. Most people who suffer from ocd usually hide it. but if its out of control and you MUST do it in plain sight you must have some real stress problems that you need to talk to someone about. Im not an expert but I think ocd comes from something that is bothering you about your life that you feel you have no control over. Whatever that is you need to try to deal with it. You must have some idea what is bothering you to make you do this. If you have a real friend then im sure they would be happy to help you with this and they wont judge you or make a face when you tell them about it. The important thing to remember in conquering this is that you dont feel like you are alone that will make all the difference.

I've always been like that too, obsessive compulsive disorder, since I was about 12. If those are the only things you notice then you are a long way from needing help.. but if things start to feel overwhelming, or are interfering with your everyday activities or thoughts, you should seek help. There is medication you can take for it in serious cases. I wouldn't worry about what you're doing though - consider it a little quirk in your personality!Health Question & Answer

<<not a Doctor hee but my best guess would be you may have OCD obssesive compulsive disorder . I makes you repeat things like checking locks and doors getting the perogie you dropped stuff like that. If it is really bad or getting worse and interfering with your normal daily life then see you doctor and he can help you with it. I have a friend who has it and she takes medicine for it and it has helped her tremendously. Good LuckHealth Question & Answer

I have very similar tendencies and that is what we call Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It isn't that hard to deal with, throw me an e-mail if you want some help or tips on what could help you. If it would help, I could also tell you about what I have to do and your little quirks will seem like nothing. =]Health Question & Answer

Yeah, it sounds like obsessive compulsive disorder! I have that reeeeaaaalllly bad. I know it might sound weird, but I always imagine myself getting hurt, or falling down or something strange like that. Like before I go take a bath, I think that my husband is going to surprise me and burst through the door, and I'm going to cut my leg or something. I also always imaging myself missing a step and falling down stairs any time I'm near them.

It's really weird, but I think it has something to do with anxiety. Here's a helpful link to look at.Health Question & Answer
