How dangerous is it if you breathe in smoke?!

Question: How dangerous is it if you breathe in smoke.?
Well, see because the other night, we all went to sleep. (Me, two of my brothers, and my mom) and I woke up at about 6 or 7 something in the morning because I smelled something. When I opened my eyes, I realized something in our apartment had caught fire (a trash can) and the place was full of smoke, so much that it took me a few minutes to even realize where the fire was. I put it out when I saw it. I figured we slept with the smoke maybe 5-10 minutes or so, maybe a little longer. I felt nothing wrong, but should I have gotten checked out just in case or something.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
If you weren't having trouble breathing after you got out of the smoke, then you are fine. You may develop a cough or a throat irritation, in which case some simple throat lozenges will help you. If you develop a persistent cough (lasting over a week), or feel pain or tightness in your chest, then you should go to a doctor.

I'm glad you woke up and were able to put out the fire before anyone got hurt!Health Question & Answer

If you feel like there is nothing wrong, then you probably don't need to be checked out unless there was something toxic in the trash can. If you notice any shortness of breath, sore throat or anything like that, then I would get looked out. I think you'll be fine.Health Question & Answer
