Is it true that smelling coffee beans will make it easier to smell new scents?!

Question: Is it true that smelling coffee beans will make it easier to smell new scents.?
My ex-mother-in-law sold Avon, and sometimes when I was smelling the perfumes, they would all start to smell the same. She told me to smell some coffee beans and that would make it so that everything smelled normal again. I had never heard this before but I tried it and it did work, but maybe it was psychosomatic.? What do you think.? What could the science behind this be.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Yes. The coffee beans help clear out the perfumes stuck in your sinuses... it does work - the science of it is your sense of smell will tire out and you stop smelling things after a certain amount of time.. the coffee beans fix that... Health Question & Answer

It's true. When you go to perfume store, they will have glass jars or coffee beans around to whiff in between testing scents. The idea is that your scent glands become saturated with these similar scents and you become desensitized. The perfume activates certain chemical receptors. After a while your scent receptors become so saturated, that they cannot tell the subtle differences between scents. The coffee beans essentially clear up your scent organs by stimulating other chemical receptors. The result is that you feel freshened up and can differentiate between scents for another couple of whiffs.Health Question & Answer
