Should I continue with my meds?!

Question: Should I continue with my meds.?
I'm on an antibiotic prescription (clarithromycin if it makes any difference) but it's only a ten day prescription.

However, some people get side effects from this drug and I'm one of them...about twelve hours after I take it with food, so early in the morning, I wake up nauseous/puking with severe stomach pains and a funny taste in my mouth.

I know it's bad to stop taking antibiotics before they're finished because then the problem doesn't get solved and all that, but I'm only three days into the regimen, and it does make me pretty sick for about 3-4 hours at like 5 or 6 am.

Should I stop them.? Or continue through with the next week despite the puking and severe stomach pains.? I would call my family doctor but I'm living in a new town for university so I just got these from a walk-in clinic and don't know who to ask...any help please, all answers get a thumbs up!Health Question & Answer

As a nurse I'm obviously really big on completely antibiotic therapy, however, I understand how miserable you are. I know that you are only three days into the antibiotics, but that is long enough for certain 'bugs' to develop a resistance to the medicine. Since you do not have a regular doctor you have three different options. The first is to call a local pharmacy and talk to a pharmacists about your problems. They may be able to suggest some things to help with the side effects. Make sure that you talk to a pharmacists though, not a pharmacy tech. The second option that you have is to go to the university clinic if you have one. I know that most universities have free clinics available for student use. I also am aware of the fact that they are usually called 'quack shacks' however, they would be very helpful with your situation. Finally, is it possible for you to stop taking the other medication that is causing the side effects while you are on the antibiotics.?Health Question & Answer
