Why is my temperature lower on one side than the other when taken with an ear thermometer?!

Question: Why is my temperature lower on one side than the other when taken with an ear thermometer.?
We have an ear thermometer. When I take my temperature, my left ear is consistently about a degree lower than my right ear. Is there really a temperature difference, or is this caused by operator error.?Health Question & Answer

I couldn't say for sure. I'm not able to observe your technique nor examine your ears. It may be operator error or it may that you have more cerumen in one ear than in the other and this blocks the sensor. Cerumen is why ear temperatures can be unreliable.Health Question & Answer

It's probably not a temperature difference. It's probably just the way you're using it, maybe you place if differently when you put it in each ear or maybe your temperature changed between that time. I've taken my temperature and then taken it again a minute later and had a 1 degree difference. It's probably just something with the thermometer. Health Question & Answer
