Question: AHHHH I am getting blood drawn tomorrow!!! SCARED help!!!.?
Well im 12 and my mom has thyroid so I have to get tested for it by drawing blood(ohhaaheeaaaaahhh!!!) and I'v never done it before but I HATE needles and getting shots. Can you tell me how it feels pleese.
Like how long they keep the needle in.? And if it hurts more or less than a shot. I thing if I even get the idea of drawing blood the moment it happens, I will pass out. By the way my mom is going to get an annual before me then I'll go.
So plese tell me also how to calm down!!! I am almost a nevous reck!

It doesn't hurt. I've been getting blood drawn since i was six because i have some unknown disease thing.I'm 13 now. It's scary the first time but it seriously doesn't hurt. Just make sure you don't watch. It's not as bad as a shot. Just calm down and take deep breaths. PS.make sure you drink a lot of liquids before you go. It's harder for them to take it if your not hydrated.Health Question & Answer
Worrying about it is by far the worst part. I have bloods done every year and I still don't like it (I'm 41), but I've learnt to look away (I try to tell myself that if I can't see my arm, then it's not *my* arm!). Tell them that you're scared - the nurses will have seen much more worried patients than you before, and they'll have managed to do bloods just fine. Knowing that you are scared will help them to help you to get through it.

Calm down, its a blood test, not heart surgery.
It stings for about two seconds whent he insert the needle into the vein, then might burn slightly while hold it there while the tube fills with blood. Then that's it, its done.
