I know people have different opinions on this subject and I would like to share mine, especially since I just recently went through the same situation. I unexpectedly got pregnant and was currently taking Paxil and Valium. I panicked and stopped taking the Valium suddenly and had a gran mal seizure 14 weeks pregnant. I was told I was lucky my baby didn't die and that I didn't suffer from brain damage. I also tried switching anti-depressants from Paxil to Zoloft (Zoloft is considered a bit safer than Paxil) and my depression came back with a vengence.
According to my OBGYN and my Psychiatrist, they were extremely firm in their opinion and belief that I MUST go back on the Paxil (with a decreased dosage) and slowly wean down the Valium. I was worried but at every checkup, everything was perfect. My doctors assured my worries that it is EXTREMELY rare for a baby to form an abnormality due to anti-depressants.
I gave birth to a perfectly healthy baby boy Oct. 23rd and he's been healthy ever since, so my baby is living proof.
Discuss it with your OBGYN AND a psychiatrist Depression is absolutely miserable and is complete mental suffering. And your baby feels what you feel! also, do you really want to spend nine months being depressed, not enjoying what are supposed to be one of the most joyest parts of life.?
Yes, there are other natural ways of coping with depression, such as exercise to release the endorphines which merely help the depression and being out in the sunlight which releases seratonin which also helps your depression, but it doesn't come close to the right treatment. I speak from experience, not only from myself but from others I have known that suffer from depression. Please speak to your doctor and consider my advice. I hoped I helped and thing everything works out for you, and hope to hear how it turns out. :-)Health Question & Answer

with all the hormonal changes it is normal for pregnancy to bring things out in your body that were under the surface... its likely you were depressed before and now you are just realizing it... The first step is to talk to someone- your person, and figure out what is really bothering you- even medications cant change that and trust me they are overperscribed! once you write down everything that really bothers you- start to find ways to address those issues...
change something if you can, try to find a way to focus on something positive rather than the negative- i know it sounds trite but really you have to take control and not let depression control you! for me it was shopping- i turned depression about weight into shopping and now i buy clothes that fit and make me feel better about myself- so what if i got it at the big ladies store...
without knowing whats bothering you its hard to say how to make it stop- but honestly its that simple... dealing with the issues, past present or future and moving on... thats whats so hard. Forgiving yourself, accepting yourself or accepting your actions/choices in life. Start thereHealth Question & Answer

You know, honestly, I would just have a cry. Getting it out is the best remedy. Don't get hysterical, because too much drama can hurt you and the baby, but I would cry to get the tension out of my body, and it would help. Staying active with people is a plus. I worked until I couldn't, and it saved me. Think of what makes you happiest, and pursue it desperately. Meds are not the answer, just breathe. You will figure it out. ;)Health Question & Answer
