Bruising from donating plasma?!

Question: Bruising from donating plasma.?
My husband went to go and donate plasma for the second time today, and was turned away because of the bruising on his arm from the first time donating (two days ago). I was wondering if anyone knew why they did this, instead of just going in the other arm. also, any info I can give him on donating plasma, such as long-term effects and such would be much appreciated.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
1. I'm not sure how long you can wait until donating plasma, but I know it's a less wait than those between blood donations since they give you back your blood. BUT two days is little much.
[How often can I donate.?
The human body typically replaces plasma within approximately 48 hours, if the donor keeps a healthy diet that includes adequate amount of fluids and proteins. In the United States, federal regulations state that an individual may donate two times in a seven day period, with a minimum of two days in between donations.] According to the below website your husband was cutting it a bit close.

2. They may have thought the bruising was from another type of needle. Plasma workers often see drug addicts coming in to donate plasma to get quick money. This is why at some plasma centers you can't wear shades. I'm sure your husband isn't, but they don't know that.

3. Apparently there are no long term effects but they do a lot of testing on you beforehand to make sure you won't have any effects. Tell him to eat a diet rich in protein and iron since those are the two biggest things taken out of him when he gives plasma. In fact, if his iron or protein levels or too low he can't give plasma. He may experience some dizzyness or nausea afterwards. But I wouldn't give plasma as often as he is trying to.Health Question & Answer

I gave plasma once and my arm bruised very badly. They said it was because they missed my vein so it did something to cause it to bruise. I didn't understand so I never went back and did it. It wasn't worth it.Health Question & Answer
