I have had this on going problem where I cant make a BM and I have been taking merolax, but thats not working and know my stomach has about a week and a half of stuff in me and my stomach is sticking out about 6 to 7 inches. helpHealth Question & Answer

i used to have this problem since i was lil girl. try to massage your stomach kinda deeply clockwise don't go counter cuz that's how colon works. and you can do what people tell you here for a quick fix. but for the future keep this in mind: i did whatever doctors or people say, eat healthy, fiber, water, all that didn't work. i went to a chinese doctor, i am convinced they know better than us and doctors, since then i go 2-3 times a day to the bathroom. the thing is if we have any imbalance in our bodies, fiber or water is not gonna do anything, i guess what they give you creates balance and keeps your colon moist. i also heard that this canadian flex seed mixture is good but you can't use all the time cuz it has sena leaf and you might need it all time. good like and i hope you can a good chinese doctor. i even take my kids thereHealth Question & Answer

excessive laxatives make you constipated. Your bowels become dependant on them to go and should only be used for occassional relief, not for daily or even weekly use unless you are a very old person. If your abdomen is distended due to impacted feces you need to consult a doctor. You could try using an enema but that may cause cramping. If you do want to you need to start with a retention enema that is oil based. You instill the enema and keep it retained for 3-4 hours to absorb into your stool and lubricate the bowel. after that you follow up with a fleet enema (after the 3-4 hours have passed) to try and get things moving. You can try milk of magnesia too. but what you really need is a cathartic like golytely or x-prep but again that will cause bad cramping and severe diarrhea for quite a few hours. Start drinking more water, make sure you are taking enough fiber in your diet. I would add more fiber to it since this is an on going problem. I recommend bran, citrucel or fibercon. You can use these for long term relief (however use in the mornings and not at night.)Health Question & Answer

This sounds serious, you need to get that waste out right away. You can get really sick from this problem and a week and 1/2 is a long time. Somebody suggested an enema.?

For the future, I used to be really constipated and I found something that worked for me. I realized it was a combination of not being active and not getting enough fiber/vegetables.

Being active really helps move the waste along in your colon, so if you don't get exercise regularly you are more likely to be constipated. Really include some bike riding or aerobic exercise into your week.

also I hate vegetables but they are necessary for BMs and I realized my diet pretty much consisted of all processed foods which robs us of the fiber we need. I now eat more vegetables and V8 juice is amazing. Especially the kind that mixes fruits and vegetables. It tastes good and it gives you a full serving of fruits and vegetables. I also eat less processed food now becuase there is no fiber in them which can help make stool softer so it passes easier. White bread, fast food, tv dinners every day=bad. Wheat bread, vegetables, fruits, organic foods=good.
