Hi ppl My girlfriend has a problem i need help on she just got out the hospital for a broken ankle and they gave her lots and lots of antibiotics,lortabs, and other pain relievers. Now that shes out the hospital she been havin like a little itch and spotting and her period just went off like a week ago but she says it wasn't normal it was light and stuff like that so i wanna know could it be side effects from the medicine,a disease or maybe a pregnancy.?

NO, sweetheart, its not a disease, i can assure that because it would have been detected while she was at the hospital. yes it can be due to the meds or the antibiotics. antibiotics have been known to affect a female and the ways of her cycle, especially if shes on some type of birth control. stress can do it too and she very well could be pregnant and still have a normal or abnormal cycle! i hope this helps you, if you need any other answers, email me! i speak from being in the healthcare field!Health Question & Answer

Prescription drugs have a lot of side-effects they don't tell you about. After she is off of them for a month or so things should be back to normal. Until them, little difference in the body are to be expected. Medications can effect the women's cycle to the point that she may spot or have a lighter period. I recommend not having any unprotected sex while she is on the meds (even if she is on the pill)! Medications can often interfere with the effectiveness of BC. If you two are really worried about it, why not talk to her doctor.? The doc will know more than any one on this website. If she is on birth control pill then antibiotics actually counter act the pill. It is very likely that she has started spotting because of this. also, don't have unprotected sex for a month after she finishes taking the antibiotics. It takes a while for the pill to be effective again.Health Question & Answer
yea actually my friend gets sick alot and used to be on a whole bunch of medication. At one point her period would really late and at others it would come back after two weeks, her doc said it was from all the meds... its probably the same with ur gf.... just talk to the doc, they'll help youHealth Question & Answer
Never heard of that med having that side effect but you never know. My best guess would be stress. Spotting is common with being stressed out or even a change of diet can cause it. Tell her to go to an OB/GYN just to be sure but its probably nothing.Health Question & Answer
