Clindamycin and birth control?!

Question: Clindamycin and birth control.?
For a tooth infection I was perscribed clindamycin and took the antibiotics as perscribed four times daily for a total or four days.

This was during my week off of birth control (the seven days of sugar pills). I finished the antibiotics on thursday and now, Friday night I am taking the first pill of my new pack.

There are not any specificly listed warnings on the clindamycin drug that warn of a decrease of effectiveness in birth control pills but I know that all antibiotics can make birth control less effective. Would I me safe to have sex without a condom tomorrow now that I have started my new pack of pills and I am not still taking the antibiotics.?

As a side note, I have been on the pill for almost a year but last month I skipped the sugar pills and took two packs in a row because having my period was not convienient at the time. Would this possibly have any affect too.?

Any answers would be much appreciatedHealth Question & Answer

Well, if you haven't noticed, skipping the "sugar pills" and going two packs in a row will make your period very intense when you finally do take the sugar pills. That's the only effect. Lots of women, including myself, have skipped them for honeymoons, cruises, etc. You mightve noticed your period was extra heavy or you had bad cramps.

Antibiotics only affect birth control if you are taking them concurrently with each other (if you were taking the birth control WHILE you were taking antibiotics, it wouldnt be smart to have unprotected sex right them) antibiotics only affect birth control on the days you take it. Does that make sense.? I mean like, it's out of your system. It doesnt disable the birth control when you stopped taking it. Right now, having sex, you wouldnt get pregnant. But if you took an antibiotic pill and went to have sex you would have a chance. I hope that makes sense, I'm trying to explain it as best I can.

Long story short, you're all set for tomorrow lol.Health Question & Answer

If you really, definitely don't want to get pregnant you should use a condom for another week.Health Question & Answer
