How do I convince my doctor?!

Question: How do I convince my doctor.?
First of all I have this rare disease that prevents my body from producing estrogen on its own. So at age 23 my endocrinologist put me on birth control pills and I finally reached and finished puberty!

Anyway he took my blood test and said that my estrogen level is still low(maybe 30 numbers down). I asked him for a higher dose and he said that there's a higher risk of blood clot and stroke. He doesn't want to do it.

Well I have no problem with Femcon Fe(everyone else does)

and I suffer from vaginal itchiness. And I want to take the higher dose. I can always go lower if I have problems.

Suggestions.? How do I convince him to give me the higher dose.?Health Question & Answer

Get a second opinion. Im my experience doctors are generally idiots. Its just a job for them and most dont want to take the time to fix the problem, and why would they if youre healthy they cant bill you or your insurance. Go to your state board of health website and look for accredited doctors and check on doctor reviewsHealth Question & Answer

I'd personally not want the higher risk of blood clot/stroke, but I understand why you want to at least try it. Ask him to let you do so on a trial basis. Agree to a timeframe and schedule a follow-up before you continue on the higher dose. Maybe you could go on the higher dose and alternate between that and a lower dose for a couple of cycles if that is possible to see how it affects you.

Just keep the lines of communication open with your endo and do lots and lots of research so you have your own information when you talk about treatment options.Health Question & Answer

So get a second opinion, from a second doctor.

Doctors are there to solve your medical problem, or else tell you why your medical problem cannot be solved. If you don't like what you're getting from this doctor, go to another doctor.

By the way, I have no idea what Femcon Fe is.Health Question & Answer

you cant really convince him to give you a higher dose.
whose the one with the medical degree.?
not you!
he's only doing whats best for you.
if he doesn't want to give you a higher dose its probably because he knows your body wont react good to it.Health Question & Answer

If your doctor doesn't want you to take it It is because he just wants you to stay healthy just listen to him he know hes a doctor, But if you don't want to get a second opinion. Good look to you ope you make the right choice. Good BlessHealth Question & Answer

you could always get a second opinion of a different doctor. I have a similar problem i dont produce testosterone due to not having a pituitary gland personally i would just wait,Health Question & Answer

I'm glad that you are able to have finished puberty! Congratulations about that. Maybe you can find another doctor who is willing to let youu try the higher dose.Health Question & Answer

Try another doctor, or several other doctors even. Some doctors will refuse things while other doctors will believe it is much better for you. In your situation a second opinion is definitely for the best.Health Question & Answer

I was seeing a progressive GYN who was checking all my hormone levels. She said that when one goes up the rest may also. So she added just a scantly higher dose.

Have you had tests for DHEA, progesterone, testosterone, etc.?.?
If not maybe your MD will order one of the above instead of estrogen.

Look up info and take it with you to support your case. If your MD still doesn't want to help you try another for a second opinion.

When I checked for the statistics for incidence of blood clots and strokes it was 8% more or 8 more out of 1000 women who had a problem.Health Question & Answer

you can thank all the people who sue doctors inappropriately for this one. Your doctor doesn't want to give you the higher dose because higher doses of estrogen ARE linked with stroke. People have sued doctors before because of this exact situation.

I wouldn't prescribe it to you either. Not necessarily because i think there's a good chance you'd have a stroke, but because i know that if you DID, some low-life slimeball lawyer would get you to try and sue the crap out of me!

If you really want to try a higher dose, your best bet is to switch doctors and try to find one that's willing to have you sign all kinds of legal documents saying that you're doing this of your own free will and you don't hold them responsible...but good luck with that, its so much easier to not deal with potential lawsuits. Most doctors are all too familiar with the potential dishonesty of their patients and their lawyers.Health Question & Answer
