What is HPV and what happens after they perform a biopsy on you ?!

Question: What is HPV and what happens after they perform a biopsy on you .?
Answers:
^^ VERY WRONG! HPV is NOT cervical cancer itself.

Clo ... HPV is the nickname for "human papillomavirus". It actually is a group of over 100 infections and the majority of them have no symptoms at all. About 1/3 of them are sexually transmitted.

The reason we're hearing so much about it lately is that they now know some forms of it cause ALL forms of cervical cancer. This is why they are pushing for young girls to get vaccinated now that they have one available.

After they perform a biopsy they will let the patient know whether they have it or not. If it's negative - nothing to worry about. It it's positive you must always be certain to have an annual PAP to watch for signs of changing cells or cancer.

Of course it isn't anything you'd want to have if you have a choice ... but it isn't the worst thing either. The good news is that HPV can actually "go away". If you take care of yourself and keep your immune system strong your body can actually overcome the disease and you can be HPV free.

If you have any other questions please email me ... anytime! ;-)

Edit: By the way .. men can also get HPV, but unfortunately there is no test for men. This is not good because men can actually get penile cancer from HPV as well. If their partner has it they should always be wary of any changes in their body and have annual check ups.Health Question & Answer

HPV is Human Papiloma Virus (probably not right spelling). it can be a precursor to cervical cancer, not cancer itself right now, but left untreated could turn into cancer. When they biopsy it they will cut away a small portion of your cervix and probably do more swabs and send them off for testing. Sometimes you will just be monitored and have smears done every 6 months, other times you will have the affected parts of your cervix lasered to remove the HPV cells. It might pay to ask if you could have the Guardasil vaccine which can help with HPV and cervical cancer. Many of my friends have had smears come back abnormal. Best to keep an eye on it and keep informed withe Doctor.Health Question & Answer

HPV is not a type of cervical cancer so do not freak out. It stands for Human Papillomavirus. There are about 130 diff types of HPV, some can cause cancer, some warts and some no symptoms. Google it for more info.

Smear tests or pap tests are taken to look for cell changes in the cervix and to detect HPV. This is because it can be an early warning sign of cancer- but when found early is very treatable and often it is pre-cancerous cells that are found.

I have had 2 biopsy's taken after some cell changes were detected after a pap test and both turned out to be nothing. It is like a pap test but takes a little bit longer and can be a bit uncomfortable. You may bleed for a bit after and get cramping but it is not too bad. The doc will send the biopsy off to get looked at and if they find anything they are not happy with then you will get called back. If you do have to get some cells removed then there is still no need to panic! Look up colposcopy to get some more info.

PS. HPV can also go away after time. My last smear showed i had no signs of HPV.Health Question & Answer

The biopsy is sent to the lab for testing and once the results are received the doctor will give you options.
As for your body, you may have some cramping and a little spotting. My doctor told me to avoid sex for 4 weeks so the biopsied area can close up and heal.Health Question & Answer

A biopsy is simply to determine the nature of a spot. He/she may have found a discoloration and he/she just wants to sure as to what it is.Health Question & Answer

HPV is a type of cervical cancer. Do you mean what happens after you get a pap smear.? If so then they send the cells to the lab to look for any abnormalities that could lead to cancer.Health Question & Answer
