Can anyone help with Etamsylate?!

Question: Can anyone help with Etamsylate.?
I have been taking these tablets since sunday for heavy bleeding since having my mirena coil fitted 4 months ago.
The bleeding doesn't seem to be getting any lighter and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Etamsylate, did it work for you.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
It's a Antifibrinolytic commonly used when the IUS has been fitted if there is heavy bleeding to begin with. It aims to work by restricting blood flow from the blood vessels within the womb.

The typical dose is 1 x 500 mg tablet four times a day until the bleeding stops. Give it till the end of the week, if no improvement it may be time for your Dr to re-evaluate the situation. The next step might be to try cyklokapron- this should stop the bledding. If not, and bearing in mind this has been going on for 4 months, it could be that the Mirena coil is not suitable for you and will need to be removed.

also, If you have been bleeding heavily for 4 months, ask your Dr to do blood work, you could in theory be at risk from iron deficiency anaemia. Try not to worry. The Mirena coil doesn't suit everyone.

Edit
I just checked with Dr Frank, apparently Etamsylate only reduces bleeding by about 13%. What I said above still applies, give it a bit longer, then perhaps ask your GP for cyklokapron-this is more effective.

There is no interaction between the two drugs and there is no interaction between Cyklolapron and Citalopram.Health Question & Answer
