I'm 14 years old and today I went to the girl's bathroom in school and saw think brown discharge in my panties where my vagina, not my butt would be. Is this menstruation.?Health Question & Answer

Yes honey it is. Congratulations on being a woman now.Please talk to your Parent(Responsible Adult , School Nurse) and let them know A.S.A.P. As they will get you pads for this.Make sure you change them several times a day if you flow alot.As you can sometimes get a bad odor if you don't.The summer is coming up and that's what tampons are for so you can still wear your bathing suit and people can't tell.Change that often and always keep up with that.If you leave it in to long(days) it can cause TSS & yes you could die from that. YOU ARE A RESPONSIBLE ADULT ONLY YOU CAN TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY.

Congratulations! It most likely is! Your period can go through phases during the week you have it. Sometimes it will start out brown and then turn bright red or vice versa. It can vary a lot during your first year. If you're too embarrassed to ask someone for a pad, it's ok to make one out of toilet paper. Just be sure to check it a few times through out the afternoon to make sure it's not soaking through your pants.Health Question & Answer
