Not a good idea ever to remove acrylic or gel nails yourself unless you know in advance how to do it. In any event you cannot stop the damage they do to your own nails as you have found out to your cost. The only way they will recover is to grow again as the bed has been weakened considerably. For your Saturday night I would put that clear varnish that fills in cracks and crevices (I think its from Sally Hansen) its got a fibre filament in it so will cover any damaged nails. But if I were you I would only keep it on for that one night. Your nails need to breath (that is the problem with false nails worn for a long time, they don't allow this to happen) what I mean is they need to recover by not having anything applied to them for a long while. Good luck and in time they WILL recover. I used to have the acrylic ones years ago, but got a fungus infection under one, and had to have them removed. My real nails took ages to get back to normal as they were paper thin and very sensitive. I would never, ever have them again. My daughter is a nail technician and doesn't have them, so that should tell you something.Health Question & Answer

Trim them as short as possible and soak your hands then after they have totally dried put some strengthening nail polish on them...I used Cos Plus Nail Strengther...its an Australian brand. Then use a nourishing handcream generously. It will take weeks for the nails to recover. I find drinking milk helps mine be strong.Health Question & Answer

You will have to wait until they grow out to be their best but a good base coat of ridge filler may help before you use your nail varnish.Health Question & Answer
