Need help understanding Ovulation/Pregnancy?!

Question: Need help understanding Ovulation/Pregnancy.?
I am a concerned boyfriend and was trying to relieve stress from my girlfriend by researching questions we both had about sex. From the research I have done, we have taken many steps to stop pregnancy.

So to fill in blanks, I am sexually active, my girlfriend is on birth control, and I have used condoms.

I have come up with a blank though, I still have confusion about menstruation and ovulation. I was looking for a second opinion and this seems the best option to get answers.

So Menstruation begins at the beginning of a period and ovulation usually occurs 12-16 days after the beginning of menstruation or the end of a period. And ovulation is the time women are most fertile...I am just confused, all I know is that my girlfriends period last about 4 days regulated with birth control. So can somebody help me figure this out because I know that avoiding having sex during ovulation would help prevent pregnancy. Oh and she has a solid schedule, meaning it happens the same time every month. So I know that I can find the days she ovulating I just can't seem to understand how though.

Thank you for any response, it would be much appreciated.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Ovulation happens in the middle of a 28-day menstrual cycle. Ovulation means the releasing of an egg from the ovary where they are stored from puberty. The pill stops ovulation . That's why women, who are on the pill, cannot get pregnant. Pill stops releasing an egg from the ovary by mimicking the same hormonal balances which are taking place during pregnancy.Health Question & Answer
