How unhealthy is it to have my menstrual cycle only once a year?!

Question: How unhealthy is it to have my menstrual cycle only once a year.?
I only have my period once a year. While it's kinda awesome that I only have bleeding, cramps, and mood swings so seldom, I'm wondering just how unhealthy this could be for me if I don't see a doctor about it.

I'm mostly healthy, aside from asthma and bad kidneys due to a disease I got a few years ago, but those don't have anything to do with my period.

I suspect that it's a hormonal problem, but just how bad can that get.? >_>; Will I still be able to have children if I ever decide to.?

All help is appreciated ^^Health Question & Answer

This has a complex answer. What I can tell you is that not ovulating is perfectly safe. Women can be on birth control for several years at a time, the "periods" they get are not a result of ovulation, they are simply shedding of the uterus. In other words, not a having a period in and of itself is not too unhealthy. However, I would talk to a professional about your specific situation.Health Question & Answer

it is not unhealthy to only have one period a year.

many contraceptives stop or alter the hormonal changes that cause a period. even while you are on the pill (which most people assume gives you your period every month) it isnt a 'real' period. pregnancy doesnt occur during the sugar pills because the pill stops the other things necessary to fertilise the egg from happening. (ovulation etc)

But im not sure if its ok for this to happen naturally. Usually some kind of chemical (ie contraceptive) is what causes periods to stop. i would advise going to your doctor just to get checked out. it could be hormonal, weight problems (underweight), stress. lots of things stop periods from coming regularlyHealth Question & Answer

It is not unhealthy to have a period. Woman have periods to prepare us for concieving a child. Nothing more. Now if your considering having a child or would like to have one in the furture then not having a period would be a bad thing in which you should consult a physician.Health Question & Answer
