Can antibiotics mess with your period?!

Question: Can antibiotics mess with your period.?
i'm on the pill and i always get it on a monday (should have come yesterday but it hasn't)

last thursday i went to the dr cuz i had a sinus infection and she gave me a stronger antibiotic than i've had in the past cuz i never seem to fully get better.

on saturday i went to the bathroom and "got my period" but it must have only been spotting which never happens to me and now its tuesday and i don't have it yet and its annoying the crap out of me.

so do antibiotics make your period out of whack.?Health Question & Answer

Antibiotics can mess with the effectiveness of the pill. By messing up the hormones of the pill it can lead to your body getting screwed up with the cycle. It just has to do with decreasing the hormones. Those hormones are what keep your period regulated (and help prevent pregnancy). When they are changed your body notices it and it can lead to spotting and/or late and/or early periods. Just keep taking the pills like you normally would. Once you stop the antibiotics your cycle should get back on track rather quickly.Health Question & Answer

Antibiotics decrease your body's ability to absorb the hormones in the pill. So while it makes it less effective at preventing pregnancy (which you're not concerned with), it could also make it less effective at controlling your period. If you're concerned, call a doctor but I'd chalk it up to the drugs. I was on antibiotics and my period was heavier than is normal for me when I'm on the pill.Health Question & Answer

very unlikely however what antibiotic was it.? they all are diff and have diff side effects etc. the medication should have come with a paper that gave the side effects and stuff. also you can always ask a pharmacist as well all walmarts have them and they would be glad to answer any questions you may have regarding medications and side effects. also fyi you could be prego. id get a test to make sure. :)Health Question & Answer

Shouldn't have an effect. Anti-biotics would be more likely to bring your period on than not on the pill. It may be because your ill or stressed or it may just be a very light month. If you are not pregnant don't worry too much. If you are pregnant or could be, see your doctor as the drugs could be bad for the baby. Often in early pregnancy you get spotting.Health Question & Answer

if you are on the pill and taking antibiotics it can make the pill less effective your doctor should have told you this and to use back up if you are sexually active the only other thing is also because the pill is less effective your hormones could be out of whack and in turn cause you to be irregularHealth Question & Answer

I don't think antibotics are supposed to mess up your periods. Your birth control isn't as affective agaist pregnancy. So hopefully you haven't had intercourse. I would call the doctor as soon as possibleHealth Question & Answer

Antibiotics can make your birth control pills less effective. This may impact your period but also increase the risk of pregnancy.Health Question & Answer
