I'm worried about going on birth control?!

Question: I'm worried about going on birth control.?
This is going to sound really superficial, but I'm worried about gaining weight while if I go on birth control.

I've been on birth control before (the Depo shot), and ended up putting on some weight. It's been a struggle getting it back off.

But, my gynecologist, and my parents, are hell bent on putting me back on. Is there a type of birth control that won't cause me to gain weight.? Or are all of them the same.?

Another thing I'm worried about is knowing that I'm almost safe from pregnancy. I don't want the fear of getting pregnant to go away. It's a lot easier for me to be responsible when there are consequences.Health Question & Answer

I had the same issue.

If you are more comfortable with a hormonal method, but you don't want to have any side effects, i'd honestly say to rethink your choices.

A diaphragm is a a rubber cap that fits over your cervix. Spermicide is placed into it, and it's worn for 6 hours after sexual intercourse to let the spermicide work. It's more effective than condoms, and it's a lot easier. It also works very well for purely contraceptive purposes.

If you're on hormonal birth control for biological reasons, (acne, periods) the side effects that you have are the side effects that you'll have to deal with.
Keeping a healthier diet and exercising more are good ways to counteract the weight gain. (I was on the pill for a while, gained weight, just in my chest, though, lucky me.)

Pregnancy is a scary thought. Condoms, diaphragm, and other barrier methods when combined with spermicidal foam, creme, or gel, can be very effective.
There are also really good backup methods like Plan B, which available OTC to 17+ year olds in one month. (In the state of MN, at least. )

Hope this helps!Health Question & Answer
