What are the pros and cons of going on the pill?!

Question: What are the pros and cons of going on the pill.?
My doctor has asked me to concider going on the pill to make my periods less heavy and to change irregular blood colour. What are the pros and cons of this.?
BTW I am 15 and have had my period since I was 12. Periods have always been heavy and lasted for a week plus. Quite often a dark red to browny black colour.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
You should ask your doctor about this, and even talk to your mom about it since she's probably done the pill thing before. This is a pretty big decision that you have to make.
It will make a huge difference for your period though, as it will be more regular and lighter. Every pill is different though and has different effects on people. You have to stay very regular with the pill though, either the 21 or 28 pack. You HAVE to do it everyday, and deal with the side effects it gives you.
Talk to your doctor about the pros and cons though, it will really help. Ask him anything you want to know, since he's the man to ask!
Hope this helps

Well ask your doctor that. People on here base their opinion on their experience. Mine is that I only have a period for 4 days and its not that heavy except for a day maybe 2. The cons are the possible health risks which are increased if you smoke. I think the benefits out weight the cons personally. If you doctor recommended it then I'd say go for it. But don't become sexually active because you are on it. BC does not protect against stds or aids and you can still get pregnant. Many women I know have gotten pregnant on the pill, however they were married and already been through school.

Lysha the cons you have provided isn't true at all. except the weight gain but that is minimal. I only gained 2 pounds.

also I recommend orthotrisprintic. I had no problems with that one.

I'm just telling you because most teens that go on BC think they can do what ever they want and not get pregnant.Health Question & Answer

I got on the pill for the same thing, it works wonders! My periods are way lighter and because I'm on yaz, they only last four days. I had no side effects, but some have reported slight weight gain, nausea, headaches... and then you do run the slight risk of blood clots although those mostly occur in older women.Health Question & Answer

Pros:
Less chance of an unwanted pregnancy
Shorter periods
Less pain during your period
