Has anyone ever used an inflatable speculum for a pap smear?!

Question: Has anyone ever used an inflatable speculum for a pap smear.?
I have never heard of one of these. But apparently it is a piece of plastic you insert in your vagina the way you would a tampon. Then the plastic is inflated. It is supposed to be less painful i guess, because it opens up in accordance to your body type. Oh yea and is a plastic speculum less painful than a metal one.? I am having my first pap done next week and have never had sex or used a tampon so I am super nervous.

Here is the link to the inflatable speculum:

I've never even heard of that but one of my really good friends is a virgin and she never used tampons either, she said it didn't hurt. also, when I went to the doctor I asked her about how she does with virgins considering they haven't really had anything up themselves (Unlike myself) and she said they use smaller ones, they have certain sizes they use to accommodate your virginal size. Not sure if all doctors do that but yeah that's what she told me.

Like I said, my friend said it didn't hurt at all, you sit there and worry for nothing because it's over with in a snap. The painful part of the whole thing is just actually wondering if you should shave or not and when you get your feet up on the feet thingy ( sorry I don't know what they are called).Health Question & Answer

They most likely won't have that kind of speculum there. Ask them to use the pediatric size and it shouldn't hurt at all. They use lubricant and they go slowly. Plastic and metal are both very similar, just relax and don't think about what is happening. Try not to think about it, usually the Dr. talks about your life-school or whatever and it will be over before you know it. Remember, he sees tons of vagages a day and yours is not the worst.Health Question & Answer

I've never had any problems with metal specula.

This sounds gross but here goes....make sure your bowels are empty before you go for a smear! Due to the close proximity of the bowels to your vagina....It will make the procedure more comfortable.Health Question & Answer

Less painful is the better choice! So I looked at that website and you definately don't want the metal speculum, go with that inflatable one.Health Question & Answer
