While I am not a woman, I have never noticed that topic in any of the questions that you need to answer to determine eligibility. Usually, the blood loss during menstruation would be trivial compared to a donation. If you are concerned you can always ask the nurse who does your screening before the donation. It's perfectly safe to donate blood while on your period (I have done before). However, take iron tablets or eat food high in iron every day for around 2 or 3 days before it, and on the day if you can. This is so that you pass the iron test before donating. Menstruating causes you to lose more iron, so unless you get more iron into your diet, you may not pass the iron test and will not be allowed to give blood if this happens.Health Question & Answer
Yes, it is safe. I'm a woman and I've donated blood several times. Its never been a question on the screening and they ask you a whole lot of things. They will test you for anemia before they take a blood donation. So there really isn't a risk at all. If you're normally anemic, losing period blood and a blood donation might cause you some problems but since they test for anemia you're in the clear!Health Question & Answer
