What can I do to help reduce period cramps?!


Question: What can I do to help reduce period cramps.?
I am going on a trip to England soon and we will be doing a whole bunch of walking, running, sight seeing, bus traveling, 9 hour plane ride and long car rides. I get very bad cramps during my period to a point that I need to curl up on my bed. My period is during my trip, what can I do to reduce the cramps and flow. NO MEDICATIONS. Nothing I have to get at a pharmacy please! Just some what natural! Does ginger ale work.?.? Bananas.? What else!.? Please help!Health Question & Answer

use natural remodies aswell! I like slicing a banana over my breakfast in the morning to get me started off as well as a warm herbal tea. I put a thin thermacare hot pad on my lower back-works real well! These work for me. It could be in my head, but it works for me, maybe not for you.. but its worth a shot. I drink ginger ale, at lunch (just 1/2 cup to 1 cup, not too much) just to get me feeling better. At night I have a hot bath with bubbles or other oils.Health Question & Answer

Why can't you take medicine.? You can't take Ibuprofen.? I usually have very severe cramps that make me curl up and want to die too, but I take 3 Motrins ( you aren't really supposed to take three, but I always do because 2 never work) and, although it takes a while, the cramps go away for a little. I have to go to school and usually after that, to work, so I can't take anything that will make me sleepy. Motrin is a god-send for me.

I find eating sweets makes the cramps worse, so stay away from those.Health Question & Answer

I used to get those awful cramps - they were terrible! But, I just recently started excercising daily (walking, running, whatever I can fit into my schedule) for approx. 20 to 30 minutes. Ever since, I have not had any problem with cramping during my period. You should give it a try!

The good news is is activity in itself decreases cramps because it promotes blood flow and increases endorphins (your feel goods). But for the plane and car rides, just try to keep busy and relax. If you start getting cramps, relax and don't tense up. I know it sounds crazy, but it works. Just thing about other things. Don't eat salty things either, this makes you bloated and miserable. Bananas work like a miracle to me :) And just be sure to stay warm, don't let your tummy get cold, as well as try avoiding drinking/eating cold things (I know it's hard to resist but...). I've also heard that drinking warm milk with honey for few consecutive nights when you're about to sleep before getting your period can also reduce cramps! Doing situps also help!
