She is going to want to sleep and lay around for a few days so her body can recoup.
The whole experience for her will be emotionally draining. First theres counseling to make sure she is of sound mind to consent to the procedure. Then there is a blood test to determine if she has a - rh factor. After that she will be lead to a waiting room and given a sedative like Valium to relax her, about 20-30 minutes later they will take her into the procedure room. The doctor will usually do an ultrasound to find the exact position of the fetus. They will start dilation by using surgical steel implements rainging in size (if I remember correctly) from a toothpick to a pen to open the cervix.This is very uncomfortable, like the worst menstrual cramps ever. After dilation the doctor will being vacuuming the fetus from her uterus. Once the procedure is complete she will be led to another waiting room, given something to drink and crackers to alleviate any nauesa she may experience. About 15 minutes later, as long as she's ok, they will call you to come pick her up.
Your experience will be sitting in the main waiting room until she is done with the procedure. It is very important that you be there for her for any support she may need physically and mentally. Be prepared to comfort her - not just tomorrow but probably the rest of her life. She will always think "what if" and about doing it. It's not just something she is going to do and there not be any repercussions. I'm sure she has thought about that. But, just be prepared. Its quiet a painful procedure. Your fully awake. They basically pull off the babies arms, legs and head and then scrap the lining of the womb.... I think your friend should go for counselling afterwards, it can be very traumatic. Its usually offered after the procedure
