What can I do about repeat yeast infections?!

Question: What can I do about repeat yeast infections.?
So I got a yeast infection for the first time within the past year, although at first I thought it was nothing and it was left untreated for a few months, during which time I continued to have sex until it became too painful and I went to see a doctor about the pain. The doc prescribed fluconazole (sp.?) and it cleared up quickly (what a relief!)

Well it's been about two months since then, and for the past couple of weeks I've been starting to feel the symptoms again (mostly the itching, but there is inflammation as well). I saw a doctor earlier this week and she told me that I could use lactobacillus acidophilus or live culture yogurt as a preventative measure. I've been trying the lacto capsules for the past few days and my symptoms are only worsening. also it's quite messy as the silica leaks out of me and makes me all sticky. I asked her if it was possible that I had passed the infection on to my boyfriend and if he had given it right back to me. She laughed and told me that men can't get yeast infections, she said it was most likely stress related.

But everything that I'm reading online (wikipedia, google) says that men CAN get yeast infections, and can pass them on to women through intercourse. So is my doctor right or wrong.? Are there any doctors or women's health experts who can offer me a second opinion.?Health Question & Answer

Men DO get yeast infections, but they don't show the symptoms as much. And, yes, it can be passed back and forth between sexual partners. (Been there, done that.) In men, it is commonly called "jock itch".

Anyway, any anti-fungal cream should work for him. Wal-Mart sells one under the name of Equate. But anything marketed for athletes foot or jock itch should do the trick.

Yes, your diet and clothing contribute to yeast infections. I, myself, can't stand the plain yogurt that is recommended for helping to prevent them. So I've added acidophilus pills to my daily routine. They can be found in the vitamin section of the stores. I've found the Azo pills in the yeast infection treatment aisles of Wal-Mart.

Another thing that helps is to keep your "area" dry. Instead of baby powder, I use cornstarch (yes, the kind for cooking). It is all natural, and there's no perfumes or dyes that can irritate an already sensitive area.

I'm not sure about boiling your menstrual cup. You may want to check with the manufacturer to see if it could handle it. I wash mine with anti-bacterial soap, and then rinse well before insertion.Health Question & Answer

I'm currently taking prescription meds for the oral version. Diet, diabetes, and dentures are contributing to mine.Health Question & Answer

Wear cotton underwear (not silk or anything that can't breath), change it often.

Sleeping naked or in very baggy clothes, also wearing baggy clothes will help air ya out.

Try to avoid stress, not sure if drinking water helps flush it, but it definitely can't be bad for you.

I'd lay off getting laid for a little bit to help the bacteria balance out again. also, it'd help with the pain factor.Health Question & Answer

Yes, men CAN get yeast infections! Yeast infections run in the female side of my family and we get them all the time! What i suggest is those Azo Yeast pills, but get the Max strength. When your feeling inflamation kind of like a tract infection (where it feels like u have to pee but you dont) take a Azo Extra Strength then with lotz of water and rub some itch cream down there. Drink lots of fluids and you will pee orange or red at first but keep hydrated until you pee clear and by then you should feel better. Do NOT NOT NOT take any kind of Anti-biotic, you or your man because that will cause the yeast infection to spread and that sucks! Try the Azo Yeast and use the Extra Strength when you feel inflammation. also try some Monistat at night time and try giving your man some of the Azo and have him hydrate and try to wash it out. also, when having sex, if it itches or if chunky cottage cheese like cream comes out, stop having sex and wash up!
Hope that helps, you can message me at Wkrdrlovely89 on messanger for any other questions or conserns!Health Question & Answer

YES. Men CAN get yeast infections and it can also spread back and forth between partners.

Is there any diabetes in your family.? Even if not, cut out almost all the carbohydrates in your diet for a while and it should get better. Cut out all sugary beverages such as sodas.

Yes, eat a lot of fresh fruits and veggies and yogurt.

When you sleep, don't wear pajama bottoms or undies. Let the air circulate. IF obese, loose weight--yeast love dark moist areas. Choose some white cotton undies--no nylon or synthetic materials--- it breeds more yeast. Wear loose pants in daytime with white cotton undies.

You might want to see another doctor next time. also, if it persists, get checked for diabetes.Health Question & Answer

Do go to a different doctor to get the yeast infection cleared up (both you and your man!!)

Abstain from intercourse until the infection is gone.

The product I recommend here will not cure a yeast infection. But it can prevent them! I had recurring vag infections when I was in my 20's. THen my doc put me on a gel like this and I have never had trouble again (for 20 years!!)

In addition to the RePHresh gel (the pH is about maintaining a helthy pH balance in the vagina), be sure that you do not use regular soap on your privates! Use an unscented feminine wash (I buy the generic Target brand). Again this helps your pH balance stay normal.Health Question & Answer

You need to throw out all your panties and anything that has come in contact with that area. Thrush can live through normal washing cycles. If you can't throw them all out, clean your clothes on the hottest setting, and add a cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle. Then hang everything out in the sun to dry. If not, you're going to re-infect yourself when you put them on again.
